Roadmap

Where we are heading.

Whaleden started in 2024 with one comic. Today it is a studio with its own stories, co-productions in the Czech Republic and the USA, and a network of more than 50 artists.

Here is what is behind us, what we are working on and where we are heading: towards stories that can be licensed further.

Status as of October 2026.

Behind us

What is behind us.

2024

Getting started

  • Spring

Whaleden starts with its first own comic, Dracula 2168. Claudio Chiaverotti writes the script, Giuseppe Cafaro draws.

  • October and November

Our first contest for artists, on the theme of our character Luna. We received 77 entries from around the world, and some of the artists then started working with us.

  • November

Whaleden presents itself at the Czech Counter-Strike Championship in Brno, the biggest esports tournament in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

2025

First comic, first partners

  • February and March

Dracula 2168 #1 on Kickstarter: 83 backers, 210% of the goal and a Project We Love badge. We printed and shipped the comic.

  • April

Our first booth at Comic-Con Prague with the comics Dracula 2168 and Thrawn Janet. Luca Maresca and Stewart Kenneth Moore sign there. Out of five pitches, visitors vote for Neon Requiem.

  • From summer

The first partner stories. Alongside our own stories we start finishing stories brought by others: Dead King Society, Kingdom of Dreams and Alzheimer NF with the story A Mind Erased.

  • Summer and autumn

We sponsor the cosplay festival ConCrunch and HumbookFest, the biggest Czech festival of young adult books.

  • Throughout the year

We build a network of professional creators. Step by step we connect with more than 50 artists and authors, including people with experience from Marvel, DC or Disney.

  • December

Excoms. The pre-sale on our website reached its minimum and raised over USD 9,000.

2026

From one comic to a studio

  • February

Creators get their own profiles. Each one shows what they are involved in.

  • May

We introduce Moral Code, the true story of Olympic fencer Jiří Beran. The Czech Olympic Team website also writes about the upcoming comic.

  • Summer

Sound Bound, our first co-production from the USA: a comic with its own playlist. 20 tracks were entered in the contest for a place on the first chapter's soundtrack.

  • August

Creator Cards, collectible cards for cosplayers, premiere at ConCrunch.

  • Today

Whaleden is no longer one comic. We are working on our own stories and on co-productions in the Czech Republic and the USA.

Four steps
01

Now: what we are working on

Stories

  • Moral Code

The first issue is being drawn in Buenos Aires by Ezequiel Di Savino. Premiere on 17 October 2026 in Prague, Na Příkopě, followed by the pre-sale of the first issue.

  • Sound Bound

Our first co-production from the USA. The first chapter is in production. The first editions are already on offer: the printed comic, a collector's edition and vinyl.

  • Excoms

After a successful pre-sale it is moving into production. Art by Ezequiel Di Savino.

  • Neon Requiem

A Whaleden Original by Gaia Cafiso, chosen by the visitors of Comic-Con Prague. It is in production.

  • Dracula 2168 #2

The second issue is in pre-sale. Script by Alice Rosso, art by Luca Maresca.

  • Creator Cards

Orders are open. After ConCrunch we want to go to more cons.

Studio

  • A website built around stories.

Every story gets its own page. Moral Code and Sound Bound already have one.

  • Referral rewards.

For Moral Code and Sound Bound you can get your own link. Rewards will be shown in your account; we are working on paying them out.

  • Advisory board.

We are putting together a group of people who will help us open up new opportunities and move the studio in the right direction.

02

Next

Stories

  • First issues of Moral Code and Sound Bound

    In print and digitally.

  • Luna

Our own character. She is designed to appear across stories. She enters someone else's story only with the consent of whoever owns it.

  • More co-productions.

With athletes, musicians, institutions and creators who have a story and want to stand behind it.

Studio

  • One address.

We will merge whaleden.com, collect.whaleden.com and shop.whaleden.com into one website.

  • Co-production in black and white.

The joint website will have a page with the whole model: who keeps the rights, what we do, who pays for what and how the profit is split.

  • Referral reward payouts.

Follows on from showing them in the account.

  • Story intake with clear rules.

One contract, no entry fee, a pre-sale with a minimum. You get a story page, payments and delivery. You stand behind the story and bring its first readers.

  • The backer stays in the story.

A name in the credits, a backer card in the collection, early access to the next chapter.

  • Previews where comics are read.

First chapters of selected stories on the big reading sites. A preview goes there, not the whole story.

03

Later

  • Series.

More issues where the first one confirms the interest. For Sound Bound the plan is an eight-issue series followed by a graphic novel.

  • Partners who take the stories further.

Shops and distributors, foreign publishers, brands and organisations the story is close to. For Moral Code this has already begun with chocolate by Steiner & Kovařík and partners from the world of fencing.

  • Stories out among people.

Printed editions in comic shops and bookstores, booths at cons, translations. We want every story to find readers even where its author cannot reach alone.

04

Vision

  • Stories ready for licensing.

This is our main goal. A story with cleared rights and proven reader interest is offered to those who can take it into other formats: animation and game studios, film producers, publishers and manufacturers. With co-productions always together with whoever owns the story. Only stories people want move forward.

  • Luna across stories.

We want her to appear in more stories one day. Wherever their authors agree. For now it is an intention, not a done deal.

How we decide

We don't decide the order from behind a desk.

We measure interest through pre-sales and subscriptions, and over time through previews too. We develop what proves itself. What doesn't catch on, we don't drag out.

Everything we build has one job: to get a specific story to people.

Should we let you know when something moves?

Subscribe to the story you are interested in. We will let you know on the day the pre-sale starts or the story comes out.
